As parents, it is frustrating to watch our children struggle. Teenagers are coping with increasing academic and peer pressure, amplified by technology that we didn’t encounter and don’t fully understand. At the same time, our teens are developmentally seeking independence and autonomy. Even with the best of intentions, our parental interventions challenge that autonomy.

This is where a therapist can be effective. I provide a safe and non-judgmental environment to help teens overcome their anxiety in a way that honors their emerging core values and sense of autonomy.

The result is an increase in confidence and genuine motivation to reach their goals and embrace rather than just survive adolescence.

My primary objectives in working with your teenager are to:

  1. Help them manage anxiety and build resilience so they can tackle their responsibilities. Over time, your teen will be able to self-administer the skills we develop together. 
  2. Clarify their values and strengths so they can create goals that honor their independence and authentic sense of self.
  3. Improve your teenager’s intrinsic motivation. Intrinsic motivation is the inner drive that propels us to actions that reflect our individual values and purpose. This is the type of motivation we want for our children because it encourages autonomy and requires no reminding, nagging or alarms set on Your phone. I will bring my experience, energy and focus to help your teenager self-motivate and move forward on a path toward achieving their future best self.
